Doors that don't blink in 175 mph wind.
Palm Beach County code requires wind-rated panels. We install Clopay, DAB Hurricane Master, and Amarr hurricane-load product lines — all with Miami-Dade NOA approval and full impact glazing options.
A garage door is the largest opening in your house. In a hurricane, it's also the most failed.
When a garage door blows in, internal pressure spikes 50–80% — and that's what lifts roofs. Florida Building Code requires wind-rated panels in HVHZ (High Velocity Hurricane Zone) areas, which includes all of Palm Beach County east of US-441.
If your door was installed before 2002 — or your installer skipped the wind kit — you're not code-compliant. Insurance may deny claims and inspections will fail at resale.

All garage doors in HVHZ must meet +50 psf positive / -60 psf negative pressure ratings minimum. Doors must also pass large missile impact test (9 lb 2x4 at 50 ft/s) or be paired with approved shutters.
Three wind-rated lines we install.
All three meet PBC code. Difference is panel construction, insulation, and finish. We carry stock of every model below.

From estimate to first storm season.
Day 0: Free estimate
We measure, photograph, and quote on-site. within range.
Day 1–5: Permit & order
We pull the PBC permit, file the NOA, and order the panels.
Week 2–4: Install day
Single-day install, 6–8 hours. We haul away your old door.
Day +7: Inspection
PBC inspector confirms code compliance. You get the certificate.
If any of these apply, it's time.
Pre-FBC 1620 — no wind rating. Insurance may deny hurricane claims.
Structural integrity is compromised even if the door still operates.
If you can't find the Miami-Dade NOA label, the door isn't certified.
Wind-rated panels stay rigid up to spec. Flex = under-rated.
Salt-air corrosion on the panel substrate weakens wind resistance.
If a 4-point inspection flagged the door, replacement is usually required.
Hurricane door FAQ.
Do I need a permit for a new garage door in PBC?
Yes. Palm Beach County requires a permit for any garage door replacement, with a final inspection to confirm code compliance. We pull the permit, file the NOA, and schedule the inspector — included in our installed price.
Can I keep my old opener?
Usually yes — if your opener is under 10 years old and rated for the new door's weight. Wind-rated panels are heavier than non-rated, so we'll check spring tension and rail length on the estimate. If the opener can't handle it, we'll quote that separately.
How long does install take?
A single 16×7 door is about 6–8 hours from arrival to test cycle. We haul away your old door same-day. The inspection happens 5–10 business days later.
What's the difference between wind-rated and impact-rated?
Wind-rated means the door withstands the pressure of high winds without deforming. Impact-rated means it also passes the large-missile test (a 9 lb 2x4 at 50 ft/s). PBC code requires wind-rated; impact-rated lets you skip shutters. We default to impact-rated panels on every quote.
Will a new hurricane door lower my insurance?
Most PBC carriers offer a wind mitigation credit of $300–$900/year for a certified hurricane-rated door. We provide the certificate; you submit it to your insurer. ROI is typically 4–6 years just from premium savings.
Storm season starts June 1. Don't be the cheapest panel on the block.
