Custom wood garage doors are the top-end premium category in Palm Beach County — installed primarily in Manalapan, Palm Beach island, Gulf Stream, and high-end Boca Raton estates. Mahogany is most common for its rot resistance in Florida humidity; cedar and old-growth oak are alternatives.
Our wood door installations use Clopay Reserve Collection (real wood overlay on steel structure — most cost-effective wood look) or Designer's Choice (solid wood construction throughout). For HVHZ compliance, the wood is laminated to an impact-rated steel backing.
Wood requires more maintenance than steel — typically refinishing every 4-7 years in Florida sun and humidity. We coordinate with refinishing specialists for ongoing maintenance and warranty work.
Installed price ranges.
| Real wood overlay on steel (Reserve) | $8,500 |
| Solid mahogany with steel backing | $12,000 |
| Custom-designed solid wood with hardware | $18,000 |
| Full custom design with carved details | $25,000 |
All-in pricing includes door, opener (optional add-on), permits, haul-away, and 10-year manufacturer warranty plus 1-year Lift Kings install warranty.
Real wood vs. wood-look in Florida.
There are two ways to get a wood-looking garage door in Palm Beach County: real solid-wood construction (mahogany, cedar, oak) or composite-overlay doors that visually match wood at 1/3 the maintenance burden. We install both, but more than 80% of our "wood look" jobs are composite — the FL humidity and salt air punish real wood unless the homeowner commits to refinishing every 3-5 years.
Real wood — when it makes sense.
Genuine Brazilian mahogany or aromatic cedar is gorgeous, develops a patina, and announces "premium home." But it expands and contracts with FL humidity (often by 1/4 inch across an 8-foot panel), warps if poorly framed, and needs UV-stabilized marine finishes refinished every 3-5 years. Pricing starts around $8,500 for a single mahogany door installed and climbs past $25,000 for custom designs. Best for inland luxury homes where you'll commit to the maintenance.
Composite-overlay — the FL-friendly compromise.
Clopay Canyon Ridge and Coachman collections, Amarr Classica, and Wayne Dalton 9700 use a wood-look composite cladding on an insulated steel base. They look like stained wood at 10 feet. No refinishing, no warping, no salt-air rot. Hurricane-rated versions exist. Pricing runs $4,500–$8,000 installed — roughly half of real wood with 90% of the look.
Stain and finish options.
Composite-clad woods come in factory-stained finishes: walnut, mahogany, cherry, espresso, weathered cedar, gray driftwood. Real wood gives you unlimited stain options at the install stage but commits you to upkeep. Most PBC clients pick a medium-walnut stain on Clopay Canyon Ridge — closest to "looks expensive without standing out."
