Steel garage doors in Palm Beach County.
Steel is the most-installed garage door material in PBC for good reason: lowest cost, longest paint life in salt air with the right coating, R-12 to R-18 insulation options, and hurricane-rated panels available in every major series. Clopay Classic, Clopay Premium, and Amarr Classica are our default stocked lineups.
What you actually get at each price tier
$2,200–$3,200 — Clopay Classic / Amarr Classica (entry steel)
Single-layer 25-gauge steel, 2-inch panels, vinyl-back insulation rated R-6 to R-9. Standard ribbed or short-panel profile. Available in 8 baked-on factory colors plus white prime-for-paint. Hurricane-rated up to 130 mph wind load. Standard 1-year warranty on hardware, 10-year on the paint finish.
$3,200–$4,200 — Clopay Premium / Amarr Lincoln (mid-tier insulated)
Three-layer steel-foam-steel construction, 2-inch panels, polyurethane foam core rated R-12 to R-15. The biggest practical difference vs. entry: quieter operation, panels won't dent from a kid's baseball, and the foam core slows summer heat gain in the garage by 8–12°F vs. uninsulated. Hurricane-rated up to 170 mph (Boca/coastal-compliant).
$4,200–$5,400 — Clopay Coachman / Amarr Hillcrest (top-tier insulated + decorative)
Three-layer construction with R-18 polyurethane foam, plus pressure-molded composite overlay in carriage-house, Craftsman, or contemporary profiles. Highest insulation rating you can get in a steel door. 175 mph hurricane rating, hot-dipped galvanized hardware standard. 15-year paint warranty.
Florida-specific considerations for steel
- Salt air corrosion: Standard steel doors with baked-on enamel hold up well inland. Within a mile of the Atlantic, we recommend the premium-tier coatings (Clopay's Ultra-Grain) — they last roughly 2× as long before chalking.
- Hurricane wind load: FBC 2023 requires impact-rated doors on coastal Boca / Highland Beach / Manalapan / Palm Beach. The mid-tier and above all meet 170+ mph. Confirm the NOA sticker on the inside bottom panel before sign-off.
- Insulation payback: Garages with the front door and water heater inside them benefit most from R-12+ doors. A pool-equipment garage doesn't need the upgrade.
- Galvanized hardware kit: Add $40–$60 for galvanized springs and stainless fasteners on east-of-Federal homes. Cuts spring failure rate roughly in half.
My Safe Florida Home grant eligibility
Florida's My Safe Florida Home program covers up to $10,000 of hurricane-mitigation work, and a code-compliant steel garage door is one of the highest-impact line items. The mid- and top-tier steel doors listed above are MSFH-approved when paired with FL Product Approval-listed hardware. We file the post-install inspection paperwork directly. Eligibility details →
