My Safe Florida Home grant help.
The state matches your hurricane mitigation spending $2-to-$1 up to $10,000. For a typical multi-bay Acreage or coastal-PBC retrofit, that often means the state covers 60–65% of the project.
What it is
My Safe Florida Home (MSFH) is a state-funded mitigation program administered by the Florida Department of Financial Services. It provides free wind-mitigation inspections to qualifying Florida single-family homes and matching grants for approved hardening improvements — including impact-rated garage door replacement and reinforcement.
Eligible homes must be a single-family residence in Florida valued under $700,000 (varies by zone) with a permanent location. There's no income cap. The state pays $2 for every $1 the homeowner contributes, capped at $10,000 in state reimbursement.
Why your garage door matters
Post-storm building inspection reports consistently show garage doors as the #1 catastrophic failure point in residential structures. When wind pressure breaks the largest opening on your house, the resulting pressure differential lifts the roof. A code-compliant impact-rated garage door breaks that chain — and MSFH-grant-eligible doors are specifically chosen to do so.
How Lift Kings helps
- Free pre-grant consultation. We walk your property, identify code-gap doors, and tell you whether MSFH is a realistic fit.
- Schedule the state inspection. MSFH provides a free wind-mitigation inspector. We coordinate the timing so it doesn't slow you down.
- Spec the right door. Not every impact-rated door qualifies for the grant. We match your project to LiftMaster + Clopay + Amarr products with the broadest MSFH-approved SKU coverage.
- Permit + install. We pull the permit, do the install, and pass the FL Product Approval inspection.
- Reimbursement paperwork. We provide the documentation MSFH requires — install affidavits, product certificates, inspection sign-offs. You submit the package and the state cuts the check.
Real math — a typical Acreage retrofit
| Three-bay impact-rated retrofit (full) | $14,500 |
| Homeowner share (your out-of-pocket) | $4,833 |
| State match ($2 per $1, capped at $10K) | $9,667 |
| Net cost to homeowner after grant | $4,833 (33% of project) |
Numbers are illustrative. Your actual project, eligibility, and grant amount depend on home value, location, and inspection results. We give you real numbers during the free consult.
FAQ
Is the program currently funded?
Funding is appropriated by the Florida legislature on a year-by-year basis. As of 2026, the program is active. We confirm current funding status during your consult.
How long does the whole process take?
Typically 8–14 weeks from initial consult to grant reimbursement check — most of that is state-side paperwork, not install time. The actual install is 1 day. Plan ahead of hurricane season if possible.
Does it work for renters or condo owners?
The program requires you to own the single-family residence. Condos and townhomes have different rules under separate hurricane-mitigation programs.
What if my house is over the value cap?
Value caps are zone-dependent and the legislature has adjusted them several times. Your inspector will confirm. We can quote the project without the grant either way if you want to compare.
