Hurricane garage doors in Lantana, FL.

Lantana is in FBC's High Velocity Hurricane Zone. Your garage door is the largest opening on your house — and the most likely failure point in a major storm. We install Florida Building Code 2023 impact-rated doors and walk you through the My Safe Florida Home grant.

Why this matters in Lantana

Garage doors fail first.

Post-Hurricane Wilma (2005) and Hurricane Irma (2017) building inspector reports showed the same pattern: when a residential structure failed catastrophically, the failure cascade almost always started at the garage door. Wind pressure pops the door inward, the resulting pressure differential lifts the roof, and the house is finished. A code-compliant impact-rated door breaks that chain.

Lantana sits in the High Velocity Hurricane Zone (HVHZ) per the 2023 Florida Building Code. Any door installed on a Lantana home today must carry an FL Product Approval Number (NOA or FL#) and be tested to 180 mph wind speeds. We only install doors that meet or exceed this standard — and we file the permit and product approval paperwork as part of the install.

Three Lantana retrofit paths

Choose by budget and home age.

1. Reinforcement only

$485-$895 per door

Bracket kit added to an existing door to bring it up to wind-load spec without full replacement. Works for relatively modern (2005+) doors in good structural shape. Quick install (3-4 hours).

2. Replacement with impact-rated panels

$3,800-$5,400 installed

Full new door — Clopay or Amarr impact-rated steel sectional. Single-car typical Lantana install. Includes opener, permit, haul-away, and insurance-discount documentation.

3. Coastal-grade impact (east of US-1)

$4,800-$7,200 installed

Hurricane-rated AND saltwater-corrosion-resistant. Stainless hardware, galvanized springs, factory-painted aluminum cladding. Recommended for Hypoluxo Island, A1A homes, and any property within 1500 feet of saltwater.

The My Safe Florida Home grant

Up to $10,000 toward a hurricane retrofit.

My Safe Florida Home is a state-funded grant program that reimburses Florida homeowners for hurricane-mitigation upgrades — including garage door reinforcement and replacement with impact-rated doors. Qualifying homes receive a free wind-mitigation inspection, then are eligible for matching grants up to $10,000 (state pays $2 for every $1 the homeowner spends, up to that cap).

Lantana homes are typically eligible. We help our installation customers:

  • Schedule the free wind-mitigation inspection (state-contracted inspector visits, no cost)
  • Match recommended door specs to grant-eligible products
  • Coordinate the install to align with grant approval timing
  • Provide the post-install documentation needed for grant reimbursement
